History About Renewal Inc.
Renewal, Inc. emerged in 1998 with the mission of fostering economic and social development to disadvantaged communities in Northeast Louisiana. It was started by Bishop Alvin Walker as an extension of the Lighthouse Church in Monroe, LA. Renewal began offering entrepreneur training at the start of their organizations life and now offers Entrepreneur and business development, housing, media, and training for youth.

Are you all where you expected to be at this point in time?
We are not exactly where we wanted to be, we are just a little behind. Renewal has suffered some hard times lately due to the affects of the economic down turn. Being a non-profit organization, we rely on outside funding for our operations. Renewal struggled due to corporations and individuals no longer being able to donate as much or not at all during the recession. However, we have come a long way and have faired well through those hard times. We are still here unlike many other unfortunate non-profits.

Louisiana needs more jobs, not more lawsuits

Mike Carter, Monroe Rubber and Gasket, Monroe, LA: “Small businesses are America’s job creators, but frivolous lawsuits hit them hard. I should know — my business is a victim of these suits. We all want good paying jobs, but in this economy a frivolous lawsuit could be the difference between making payroll and closing your doors.”
